You're a pain in my.....arch or heel
Have you ever had a stabbing pain at the bottom of your foot? What about a dull, achy or sharp pain in the arch/sole of your foot? Not sure when or how it started? Did the pain just gradually get worse?
Have you ever experienced tenderness/pain to touch near or at the bottom of your heel?
If you’re suffering from the above symptoms you may have Plantar fasciitis.
There is a thick band-like ligament that runs from your heel to the balls of your toes. It supports the arch of your foot, known as the plantar fascia. Plantar faciistis occurs when this structure becomes irritated and inflamed. While, usually not a very serious condition it can be painful. The pain is usually worse in the morning and after exercise.
Individuals at risk:
-Repetitive activities causing pressure on your feet
-Individuals with flat feet or very high foot arches
-Individuals with careers that involve standing and/or walking for long periods at a time.
-Long distance runners
-Improper footwear (worn out shoes)
-Obesity
-Pregnant women
-Tight calf muscles
Upon examination by a healthcare provider, you typically will not need any diagnostic imaging (x-rays, ultrasound, or MRI). Unless, advised by your primary care physician, chiropractor or podiatrist. Treatment includes rest, physical therapy; specific stretches ice and soft tissue therapy. Arch and heel supports can help too! Consult with you primary care physician or chiropractor!
